The Avanex PowerExpress Metro Optical Amplifier uses an innovative patent pending technology to extend the 32-wavelengths C-band bi-directional metro DWDM of OC-192 span up to 90 Km over NDSF (Non-Dispersion Shifted Fiber. It is a rack mounting module, one unit (1.732 inches) high, and fits to a standard 23-inch wide rack. The bi-directional amplifier is usually located at each end of an optical link. This unit can compensate up to 25 dB link loss. It compensates completely for the loss of optical MUX and DeMUX processors. At the receiver end, it provides sufficient power to allow for the use of cost effective 10 Gb/s PIN receivers. Final Test Data Sheet and a 35-page Operating Manual are available. Each unit contains:
1. A microprocessor controller that provides intelligence to automatically change the output power, or gain, when users add or drop channels
2. Two pieces of Ericsson Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers ( EDFA ) Model PGE 608 30 with Input, Output, Input Monitor and Output Monitor Ports
3. Two Oplink 95%/5% C-band couplers ( tap )
4. Two Avanex Broad Band Splitters ( BBS )
